When defending a client against drug charges, I look at several aspects of the arrest and the events leading up to it. There may not have been reasonable cause for the initial search and seizure of the contraband. If you were arrested following a traffic stop, I attempt to identify if the officer validly stopped your car. If your search was done without a warrant, my job will be to determine if it was appropriate and if the arresting officer should have secured a warrant first.

Under the law, you have the right to find out if the informant had direct dealings with the illegal substances and whether the information he or she provided the police in getting a judge to approve a warrant was valid.

Every step of handling the drug must be documented so that the drug is accounted for the entire time.
